This course will prepare the student to conduct a protective intelligence assessment of a client. Unlike threat assessments, which concentrate on the determination of the general level of danger faced by a particular client, Protective Intelligence concentrates on the investigation of historical background of a specific subject who shows an “unusual direction of interest” towards a client, the determination of the subject’s threat to a client, and finally, the management of the subject’s interest towards a client.
Prerequisites (or equivalent)
Summarize the fundamentals of Protective Intelligence Investigations in order to describe the investigative and assessment steps of a successful protective intelligence investigation.
Analyze relevant case studies of historical and contemporary protective intelligence subjects and explain the psychological characteristics and motivational factors most seen in protective intelligence subjects.
Examine notable protective intelligence investigations to determine appropriate investigative techniques and case management strategies.
Describe the levels of dangerousness presented by protective intelligence subjects after proper assessment and investigation has been completed.
Demonstrate how knowing the significance of the protective intelligence subject’s background, behavior, and motivation plays in the appraisal of a subject, the student will be able to apply what they have learned in order to conduct a proper protective intelligence investigation and provide an assessment of the subject’s degree of dangerousness towards a client.
